Privacy Policy

Effective Date: December 16, 2025

KiCad is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the KiCad software and visit our website (kicad.org).

KiCad Software

We respect your privacy and autonomy.

  • No PII Collection: The KiCad software does not intentionally collect personally identifiable information (PII).

  • No Data Selling: We do not sell any user data.

  • Optional Data Collection: All data collection regarding bug reports, software updates, and performance metrics is strictly optional. You must explicitly opt-in to these features upon the first run of the software. You can change these settings at any time in the software preferences.

    • Crash Reporting: If you opt-in to crash reporting, we use Sentry to collect crash data. This helps us identify and fix bugs. Crash reports are sent through a reflector service which obscures your IP address before reaching Sentry. Reports are associated with a random unique ID which you can reset at any time in the preferences. Please note that crash reports may include memory dumps which could contain unintentional PII.

Third-Party Plugins

KiCad supports third-party plugins that are not covered by this policy but may be covered by the policy of the plugin authors. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any plugins you install.
